Wirral Viking Festival and  the Wirral Vikings

 

You may have reached this page because you are interested in history and in particular the history of Vikings on the Wirral or because you have searched for the “Wirral Viking Festival” and have been redirected here. The purpose of this page is to help avoid any confusion, we will happily answer any questions you may have on Wirrals Viking era history but we cant help you with parking or travel to and from the Wirral Viking Festival.

The Wirral Vikings have been depicting life in the period from the early 10th Century though to post Norman conquest  as Wirral Skip Felagr and more recently as Wirral Vikings CiC for nearly 30 years. We had planned to put on a large scale re-enactment event in 2020 called “The Wirral Viking Festival” but Covid put a stop to that. Since then a different festival has taken place. Wirral Vikings are not associated with that event. Whilst we wish them every success, raising awareness of Wirrals Viking history is a good thing, its not us.

You can see us at various events around the Wirral, North Wales and further afield throughout the year at mostly free to enter events. We also do talks, demonstrations and educational visits to schools, community groups such as the Womens Institute as well as scout group and various other organisations. We have strong links with local archaeology groups and academic institutions such as Liverpool University. We also do film and media work. So as you can see we do a lot… just not the Wirral Viking Festival.

Wirral Vikings depict primarily the Hiberno Norse community that settled on the Wirral in the 10th Century as well as the Saxon, Anglo Dane, Brythonic communities. We even have the odd Norman depiction.
